Las comunidades incluyentes fomentan la justicia y la paz

La semana del 5 al 8 de abril, se llevó a cabo en el Colegio Regina, la Séptima Semana de la Inclusión. Esta actividad tuvo como finalidad, darle continuidad al objetivo del año en la Provincia de México: “Vivamos la paz con la fuerza del amor” y, al tema trabajado en el Encuentro de Maestros en Valladolid, Yucatán, el pasado mes de febrero: “Un modo de vida comprometido, con la justicia, la paz y la integridad de la creación”:

Por medio de diferentes actividades que se realizaron durante esta semana en cada sección, se procuró sensibilizar e informar a la comunidad, sobre la importancia de las actitudes incluyentes y su impacto en una cultura de justicia y paz.

Una de las actividades con las alumnas de secundaria y preparatoria, consistió en dar una conferencia con el testimonio de tres fundaciones, que en pocos minutos, lograron involucrar a las niñas, inyectándoles entusiasmo para apoyar y colaborar en temas como el autismo, las niñas en situación de calle y con personas que no logran acceder a asistencia médica, ropa o alimento, por sus bajos recursos económicos. 

El escuchar a Gerardo Gaya, fundador de “Iluminemos de azul por el autismo”, dar su testimonio acerca de su hijo y lo que lo impulsó a hacer esta exitosa fundación; así como la conmovedora experiencia de la Madre Concepción García RJM, superiora de la Casa de Santa Clara, que se encarga de darles vida de familia a 12 niñas en situación de abandono y por último, entusiasmarse frente a la propuesta de un grupo de mujeres laicas que se dejan conmover por las diversas necesidades que distintos grupos sociales de la Ciudad de México presentan; fue una clara invitación para las alumnas, de darse cuenta que hay mucho por hacer y que solo de nuestro compromiso, constancia y ayuda, se pueden fomentar comunidades más justas, pacificas e incluyentes. 

Tampoco se quedaron atrás las alumnas de las demás secciones; en preescolar las niñas pintaron un hermoso mural con la boca, ya que tenían que tener las manos atadas y reflexionaron sobre el talento que tienen las personas que no pueden usar las manos y sin embargo, logran hacer muchas cosas; también realizaron un cuento en familia, en dónde tenían que hacer un dibujo y escribir que piensan ellos sobre el lema de esta semana, obteniendo resultados verdaderamente profundos y comprometidos. Durante toda la semana, se acompañó a esta chiquitas a observar si sus actitudes ayudan a que su grupo este unido y en paz. 

En primaria, se aprovechó la tecnología y se compartieron varios videos que hablan sobre inclusión y se comentaron en grupo. Las familias hacían una pequeña reflexión, que se pegó en un mural, dando como resultado, un hermoso collage, lleno de buenas reflexiones con propuestas prácticas y paradigmas incluyentes. También, se aprovecharon los temas que se dan en las materias de civismo y Educación de la Fe, para hablar sobre diversidad, solidaridad, paz, unión, respeto, justicia, etc. Logrando engranarlos con la figura evangélica de Jesús incluyente. En cuarto de primaria, se hizo una actividad especial de sensibilización sobre la ceguera y así las niñas pudieron sentir y entender el proceso de aprendizaje de su compañera de salón con discapacidad visual. 

Por último, fue muy importante atender los debates realizados con las alumnas de secundaria, donde fue claro escuchar un lenguaje de nuevo paradigma acerca de la inclusión. Hablan de discapacidad y condición y no de enfermedad. Son capaces de hablar de justicia y no de caridad; así como de dar oportunidades y pensar en el otro. Reconocer que la diversidad es necesaria porque complementa y, proponerse eliminar barreras para que su escuela sea un lugar accesible para todos. Como buenas adolescentes, apasionadas con el tema y viviéndolo como propio, defendían los derechos a la educación y oportunidades para todos.

En conclusión, esa semana se vivieron varios valores que se desean inculcar en nuestras alumnas ya que son propios de Jesús – María.

Inclusive communities as enablers of justice and peace

During the week of April 5th through the 8th, the Instituto Mexicano Regina had the honor of hosting the Seventh Week in favor of Inclusion. All activities held throughout the week aimed to support our Mexican Province´s 2015-2016 objective, “Living peace with the strength of love” and the theme of our Teacher Conference held in Valladolid, Yucatan this past February, “A new way of life committed to justice, peace and God´s creation”. 

Through different activities held around the School, we tried to sensitize and inform our community about the importance of having and living inclusive attitudes towards others and their impact on a peaceful and just culture. 

One such activity was held with girls from Middle school and High school. Three different foundations gave their testimonials in such a way that, within a few minutes, the girls were riveted, full of enthusiasm towards helping others in areas such as Autism and those less fortunate than us who have no access to medicine, clothes or food. 

From listening to a hopeful Gerardo Gaya, founder of “Let´s light the world blue for Autism”, talk about his son and what drove him to create a now successful Foundation, to the moving experience voiced by Sister Concepción García RJM, Mother Superior of the Casa de Santa Clara, who, along with other Sisters, gives 12 girls at risk of living on the street a sense of belonging and family, and with the testimonials of a group of women moved by the realities of Mexico, an invitation was clear. An invitation to be better, to realize there´s much to do and that it is only through our own commitment and aid that we will enable real, inclusive, peaceful and just communities. 

The same feeling was felt throughout the School. Girls in preschool painted a beautiful mural using only their mouths, with their hands tied behind their backs, reflecting on the talent of people who, while unable to use their hands, can do many things. They were also asked to write a story with their families about what inclusion means to them, achieving deep and engaging results. This was later reinforced throughout the week by making them realize whether their attitudes helped create a peaceful community and class or not. 

Elementary school was not far behind. Technology was in the forefront with the use of videos depicting an inclusive society, which were later analyzed in class. Families were asked to write a brief essay on the topic, one which was later used as part of a mural that brought about practical and creative solutions to real life problems faced each day by people with disabilities or disadvantages. Social Studies and Religious classes were used to talk about topics such as diversity, solidarity, peace, union, respect and justice, all intertwined with a new vision of an Inclusive Jesus. In fourth grade a special activity was held on blindness, where the girls were able to feel and understand the learning process lived by one of their classmates who suffers from a visual disability. 

Lastly, special attention was given to debates held by middle school students on the topic, where new language was used to develop powerful paradigms. Talk was about disabilities and conditions, not sickness; justice, not charity; opportunity, not limitations. Students recognized that diversity is needed and taking down barriers essential so that our School is a safe and just place for all. As teenagers do, passion and enthusiasm played an important role, especially defending the rights to education and equal opportunities. 

To summarize, this week showed us once again that our School and our students are living proof that the values taught and envisioned by Claudine Thévenet and the Sisters of Jesus and Mary are here to stay.
