Migrant Ministry Update
Province of USA Haiti
This week Srs. Natalia Mejia and
Rosie Nicholson were joined by Cathy Minihan (left) Pat Clausen (middle) and
Cheryl Nichols (right), who carne to experience the lives of the asylum seekers
in the San Diego border area. They received a warm welcome from the workers at
the shelter, participated in ad activities with us and met migrant families
with new born babies. This weekseveral migrants were in quarantine dueto
theflu.
Also,
this week ICE and Border Agents were not releasing many migrants from the
detention center nor at the border entry. Please pray that migrants will be
released promptly. After learning ofthis at theshelter in the morning on
Wednesday, Feb. 26 that same night we participated in a movement "Doctors
for Camp Closures" (being held in several Iocations including Washington,
DC, NYC, Newton and Plymouth MA and others on Feb. 26). They hung banners and
held lighted signs over several highway overpasses saying "Restore
Asylum". Here are Cheryl and Sr. Rosie Nicholson on the overpass.
This was
in response to a study by Physicians for Human Rights which stated that our
harmful US immigration policies - remain in Mexico, detention, deportation and
family separation - causes violence comparable to torture to migrants entering
the US seeking asylum. This was quite a moving day that we shared at our night
prayer!
We also spent time meeting with the young
adults at the Border Angels off ce who shared their experiences of working with
migrants by leaving water bottles in the Borrego Desert (left)for those
entering illegally, assisting with free immigration la wyers, post ng bail to
release migrants in detention to reunitefamilies, 'caravans of love' delivering donations to shelters in Tijuana, etc.
While
wewere visiting Chicano Park afterwards we briefly met Enrique Morones (retired
founder of Border Angels now with Gente U nida) who keeps me informed of
migrant issues and events such as the one Feb. 26. Chicano Park presented
colorful artistic murals, such as this one, depicting the journey of the Latino
people over the centuries.
Next, we
met Pedro, a friend of Cheryl, who works with several groups enhancing human
rights especially with the many migrants in our area. It was energizingto meet
with so many people of various ages, different faiths, all weaving a web of
relationships to provide hope and new life to our migrants and immigrant
communities here and across our country.
Our next stop will be the desert
to see where many dangerously seek entry into the US and to pray for 'our
neighbor' - living and deceased. On Saturday, we will head to the Border Angels
shelter in Tijuana, Mexico on the beach next to the border wall. Every day I
hear in my heart the question, "Who is my neighbor?". There is always
freshness and newness in response to this question. This week while tenderly holding
a newborn in my arms at the shelter, the question was quite clear...and so was
the answer.

ASMA JEHANGHIR
Our Senior Section pay tribute to the late Asma
Jehangir, a past pupil of our Convent of Jesus and Mary School, Lahore. She was
a prominent human rights lawyer, social activist and pro democracy activist who
was fearless in her condemnation of injustice everywhere and fearless as she
championed the rights of women and minorities consistently. She fought for the
downtrodden and marginalized everywhere. Despite continual death threats she
continued her work until God called her home on February 11th 2018.

Jornada Mundial de los pobres - World Day of the Poor - Journée Mondiale des Pauvres
Somos invitados: "Invito a
Padre celestial."
When? 19 November 2017 will be the First World
Day of the Poor - 33rd Sunday in Ordinary Time.
"At the conclusion of the Jubilee of
Mercy, I wanted to offer the Church a World Day of the Poor, so that throughout
the world Christian communities can become an ever greater sign of Christ’s
charity for the least and those most in need.
To the World Days instituted by my Predecessors, which are already a
tradition in the life of our communities, I wish to add this one, which adds to
them an exquisitely evangelical fullness, that is, Jesus’ preferential love for
the poor.
I invite the whole Church, and men and women of
good will everywhere, to turn their gaze on this day to all those who stretch
out their hands and plead for our help and solidarity. They are our brothers and sisters, created
and loved by the one Heavenly Father.
This Day is meant, above all, to encourage believers to react against a
culture of discard and waste, and to embrace the culture of encounter. At the same time, everyone, independent of
religious affiliation, is invited to openness and sharing with the poor through
concrete signs of solidarity and fraternity.
God created the heavens and the earth for all; yet sadly some have
erected barriers, walls and fences, betraying the original gift meant for all
humanity, with none excluded."

A peace rally to conscientise authorities
(An
error in the State Board Hindi Text book)
Despite
the services rendered we find ourselves trapped in various unwanted,
politically motivated and supported conflicts for absolutely no genuine reason.
One of these reasons was the reference
to Jesus, our Saviour as "Haiwan". (The Hindi word for "Satan")
in the text book produced, printed and recommended by the Gujarat State Board
of Schools Text books by the State Government in the Hindi subject studied by
the students of class IX all over the state.
To highlight and rectify this
discrepancy, a silent peace rally was conducted by all the Christian groups on 12th
June, 2017 in protest against reference to Our Lord Jesus as "Haiwan"
(Satan).
Religious leaders, principals, RJMs, and
lay leaders of the Christian Churches and Missionary Schools briefed the
Collector on how we show and express our respect and concern for all faiths in
our institutions. They gave an account of the celebration of various festivals
in schools through which children are taught to practise inter-faith harmony
and sensitivity towards one and all.
The solidarity expressed by the
Christians during this rally was a note worthy feature of the entire silent
protest.
In
an era where the world has reached its peak in advancements in various fields,
we the Christian minorities have made massive contribution to the promotion of
values, ideals and helped the youth who have educated themselves in our
schools, to create a unique place and position in the society and leave an
outstanding mark of their Alma Mater wherever and in whatever profession they
undertake.
We hope that there will be no
discrimination among us and such gross errors that lay a negative impact on
young minds and hearts be taken care of by our political leaders and that peace
prevails in a country that celebrates unity in diversity.

Model United Nations - Modelo de Naciones Unidas
INSTITUTO MEXICANO REGINA
MODEL UNITED NATIONS
IX EDITION
On February 4, 2016 we held the 9th edition of IMRMUN (Instituto Mexicano Regina Model United Nations). The MUN is a simulation of UN sessions in which students assume the role of diplomats, representing various nations, debating, and reaching consensus to solve the problems currently affecting our planet. The conference is spoken entirely in English.
To achieve this, our students conducted prior research that allowed them to have a better view of the country, to find workable solutions represented in an atmosphere of cooperation, and tolerance that would promote peace and justice. Our students, along with guest students from Colegio Vista Hermosa, Colegio Columbia, Colegio Merici, Colegio Internacional de México and the Instituto Cumbres México, sought to find joint solutions to combat threats to international peace caused by terrorist organizations, analyzed the situation in Syria, nuclear waste disposal and protection of the environment, the nuclear situation in Asia and the Middle East, the refugee crisis in Europe, the safeguarding of the cultural heritage in war-torn countries as well as monitoring the financial crisis and conditions of life of citizens in Greece.
For this event we were pleased to welcome the Ambassador of Korea in Mexico, Dr. CHUN Beeho, who stressed the importance of collaboration between countries to solve international problems. We also welcomed of the Ambassador of Pakistan in Mexico, Mr. Aitzaz Ahmed, who addressed the involvement of Pakistan in the UN and its work to eradicate terrorism.
These academic exercises helped to give an answer to the 3rd priority of the Congregation of the Sisters of Jesus Mary looking for a way of life committed to justice, peace and integrity of creation.

nueva sociedad."
