Joins the Season of Creation

from St. Anthony's Community, Agra, India

We shared our reflections on Nature – Season of creation – A Time to Remember and Restore during the prayer meetings. We felt one with nature, took part in plantation and continue to take care of the nature. We have also involved our co –workers in plantation. A deep awareness is felt during this time of Pandemic that we need to respect, love and take care of the nature, as we are all part of creation. Nature always been giving us but man’s greed has destroyed the nature.

The pledge to save our common home made us aware of the urgent need to be one with the nature and to love its creator.  Our them: Nurture Nature for a better Future has become part of our   life. Thus make this world a beautiful place to live in for the next generation.

From Provintial house, New Delhi, India

A portion of our Community room was created into an atmosphere of the earth, all elements of nature, mountains, hills, rivers, trees, plants, creepers, rocks, flowers that usually surround us on our planet giving us a nostalgic feeling of our Common Home. Based on the youtube Videos, that drew us close to the reality of what is happening on Mother Earth, we were made aware of God’s original plan for humanity, our selfishness and destruction, envisaged by Pope Francis and our responsibility to take care of our Common Home.
Each one of us Sisters held a slogan in the hand like a Poster – e.g. “Save the Earth” ; “Plant trees”; “Say NO to plastic”; “love green, Live green”; “Save Electricity”; “Save Water”; “Change the World”; “Save the Planet”; “Stay alert”; “Grow Trees”; “Keep Clean, Keep Green”; “Save Life”; “ Nurture our Mother Earth”; Save our Future”; and together we took a pledge to care for the earth in our own surroundings.
May this prayer on Creation renew, repair, restore and re-energize our wounded Mother Earth and heal humanity.

ECO CLUB ACTIVITIES

"Look deep into nature and then you will understand everything better" - Albert Einstein.
To instil love for nature amongst the young students, the Eco club of Jesus and Mary Sarvajanik High School, Carambolim- Goa, is actively involved in organising green activities. During Vanmahotsav week, the enthusiastic students under the guidance of teachers carried out a plantation drive in the school campus. Special assemblies were also conducted, highlighting the importance of medicinal plants and herbs.
"In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks" - John Muir.
To give an exposure and to have aquaintance with nature, a trek to Palli waterfall, Valpoi- Goa, was organised on 14th August 2017. Around 70 students and three teachers were a part of the trek. The trekkers crossed the gushing streams, climbed the steep slope, walked the narrow and challenging paths. Upon reaching the zenith, the view was breathtaking. Indeed it was an unforgettable experience.

The message was “TO LIVE IN HARMONY  WITH NATURE”.

A joint effort with our parish Caritas and the Peasant Movement of Gros Morne, Haiti

At a town hall meeting in February two sixth graders, Yolande Mereus and Emerson Tanisma, and fifth grader, Judensley Maurice a.k.a. Lele, explained how their families can fight against the sweet potato weevil that is destroying up to 80% of the crop farmers have planted.  They explained how to use a simple trap with the female sex hormone to attract the male weevils and how red traps attract more than other colors.  The students have given the same message on the parish radio station and offered to paint traps red after school on Fridays.

The fifth and sixth grade teachers will help integrate the message into the curriculum so that the students can share their information with their classmates and enlist other youth in the community to fight against the weevils.  Jesus-Mary Parish School buys sweet potatoes for school lunch from farmers using the traps..  The goal is for farm families to be sure they can harvest good sweet potatoes and for Gros Morne to gain a reputation as a weevil-free zone.  This campaign is a joint effort with our parish Caritas and the Peasant Movement of Gros Morne.
