September 24th: WORLD DAY OF MIGRANTS AND REFUGEES 2023

Mensaje del Papa Francisco

Message of Pope Francis

Prayer

God, Father Almighty,
grant us the grace to work tirelessly
for justice, solidarity and peace,
so that all your children may enjoy
the freedom to choose whether to migrate or to stay.

Grant us the courage to denounce
all the horrors of our world,
and to combat every injustice
that mars the beauty of your children
and the harmony of our common home.

Sustain us by the power of your Spirit,
so that we can reflect your tender love
to every migrant whom you place in our path,
and to spread in hearts and in every situation
the culture of encounter and of care.
Preghiera

Dio, Padre onnipotente,

Echoes of Season of Creation

From St. Bede's Community, Shimla, India

As one Community, we the Sisters of St. Bede’s- Chelsea came together for a Prayer service in our Garden to feel oneness with the Nature. We began our prayer by lighting the lamp as a sign of invoking God’s presence in our midst. In order to manifest how each of us would care for our common home, we came up with different symbols as a sign of commitment to nurture the Nature. Following are the symbols brought forth by each Sister:

Sr. Magdalene - Plastic: By minimum use of plastic, we could protect our Nature from harmful hazards which affect the life on the planet.

Sr. Aloysius Kadam – Flowers: Flowers are one of the most beautiful creations and expressions of God and it represents fulness of joy and peace. Flowers are also used as a form of offering to God. Like the flowers, we too continue offering ourselves to God and His people so that we may spread His fragrance of goodness, love and forgiveness.

Sr. Marina – Paper: By minimum use of paper, we could save our plants and trees which are the source of oxygen and removal of carbon dioxide.

Sr. Lily – Vegetables from our Garden: By growing vegetables in our garden, we will promote more organic farming which is free from pesticides and chemicals. This will have a good effect on our overall health and will protect our bodies from poisonous substances.

Sr. Shyma – Light: The absence of darkness is light. Light promotes growth and creates energy. Light also symbolises the presence of God. So as a Religious Sister of the Congregation of Jesus and Mary, we pledge to become beacons of light (God) and care for our Mother Earth through our life’s witness.

Sr. Geeta Mary - Water: Water replenishes life and is the source of every living creature. We pledged to save water for our future generations and make use of this natural resource with a sense of responsibility.

Sr. Ivy Mary – Wet and Dry Waste: By segregating the garbage into dry and wet waste, we will help in the process of recycling objects and things which will add to saving our resources for the future generations.

Sr. Binita Surin – Plants: A Plant is a source of food and life to every creature on the earth. We pledged to grow more saplings so that we will create more of green forests to save the Earth from pollution and global warming.

We thanked the Lord for this great gift of creation and concluded our prayer service with a thanksgiving hymn.

Taking part in the Season of Creation

From Community of Dublin, Ireland

As a community here in Dublin we have enjoyed taking part in the Season of Creation. We had a lovely Prayer Service on the theme.

We cultivated a small bio- diversity garden with beautiful wild flowers, attracting the bees, also a Plaque marking our Common Home, which is set in this garden. We also had various posters displayed in the house. All of this has inspired us to nurture and care for our beautiful world.

From CJM Dehra Dun, India

On Thursday the 24thSeptember 2020 we celebrated the ‘Jubilee for the Earth’. It was a very meaningful celebration and we were able to experience the oneness with our creator and gave glory to this marvellous works.

Prayer to Open Laudato Si’ Week - May 16 - 24, 2020

in celebration of the 5th anniversary of the letter of Pope Francis to every person living on this planet.
Thank you, Province of USA-Haiti!

CARE FOR OUR COMMON HOME
Preparation: This prayer may be done all at once (in about 30 minutes), or it can be spread out over the anniversary week. Whether you pray by yourself, or virtually with others – indoors or outdoors – create a focal point with pictures or objects that speak to you of Earth’s gifts, Earth’s losses, our failures, and your personal hope for our common home; get readers as needed; select music.

Five years ago, on May 24, 2015, Pope Francis sent a letter to every person living on Planet Earth, about the urgent need to take care of Earth as our common home. He called his letter Laudato Si’ which means “praised be,” a title he borrowed from St. Francis of Assisi, known for his great love of nature. On his deathbed, nearly 1000 years ago, St. Francis sang a hymn of praise to Brother Sun, Sister Moon and all creation, singing again and again “praised be ….” The Children Are Asking,©M. Southard, CSJ

This week during  May 16-24, 2020, the people of the world are gathering everywhere to celebrate the letter of Pope Francis, and listen again to his call to renew our commitment to care for Earth as the home we share. So, we gather now to remember the gifts creation has lavished on us, and give thanks for the progress we’ve made in caring for Earth as our mother, and sister, and home. We gather to mourn Earth’s losses and our failures toward her, and to advance our hope for the future of all life on this wonderful planet.

Music: Choose music that connects you joyfully with Earth — Suggestion: listen to a recording of “What a Wonderful World”, by Louis Armstrong:

Prayer in Solidarity...

... with the Vietnamese who died in Essex recently and their Families.

Delegation of Ireland

“Is not this the fast I choose: to loose the bonds of wickedness, to undo the strap of the yoke, to let the oppressed go free, and to break every yoke? Is it not to share your bread with the hungry, and bring the homeless poor into your house; when you see the naked to cover them, and not to hide yourself from your own kin”. ( Isaiah 58: 6-7)

Oh God, we didn’t see them, but you did, the 39 Vietnamese who died recently and who join the hundreds of thousands of human beings smuggled and trafficked each year. They are trapped and sometimes die in modern day slavery. They travel under terrible conditions, they work in factories, plough fields, harvest crops, work in quarries, fill brothels, clean homes and haul water. Many are children with tiny fingers for weaving rugs and small shoulders for bearing rifles. Their labour is forced, their bodies beaten, their faces hidden from those who don’t really want to see them. But you see them all, God of the poor, you hear their cry and you answer by opening our eyes, and breaking our hearts and loosening our tongues to insist: NO MORE.

Silent Prayer Time.

Intercessions
We remember especially the 39 Vietnamese victims of smugglers who died recently in the container in Essex, 31 men and 8 women.   R: Lord may they now experience the fullness of your love.

We remember their families, parents, grandparents, brothers, sisters, husbands, wives, partners, children. R: Comfort and strengthen them in their unbearable grief.

For all those 30 million men, women and children in our world who are objectified, degraded and exploited for commercial gain. R: Lord strengthen them and let them know that they are not forgotten.

For traffickers, pimps and slave holders who perpetuate this system of indignity and degradation.
R: Open their hearts to recognise their injustice.

For all of us, that we may examine how we collude to perpetuate human slavery, and that we may never turn a blind eye.    R: Move our hearts to use our voices for justice.

For governments everywhere that they may awaken to the fact that living in poverty and inequality is the reason why people become vulnerable to promises of a better life from smugglers and traffickers.  R: May we work together towards a fairer model of development.

Lord, we ask that we may never fall into indifference, that we may open our eyes and look upon the miseries and wounds of so many brothers and sisters deprived of their dignity and freedom, and hear their cry for help. We ask this through Christ our Lord, Amen.

18-25 January: Week of Prayer for Christian Unity

"Justice and only justice you shall pursue" (Dt 16, 18-20)

"Every year Christians across the world gather in prayer for growth in unity. We do this in a world where corruption, greed and injustice bring about inequality and division. Ours is a united prayer in a fractured world: this is powerful. However, as individual Christians and communities, we are often complicit with injustice, and yet we are called together to form a united witness for justice and to be a means of Christ’s healing grace for the brokenness of the world.
The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity 2019 has been prepared by Christians from Indonesia." ...

Via Crucis - Stations of the Cross

preparado por JPIC de la UISG, año 2018

ENG- Stations of the Cross

This year we want to journey in prayer, in a special way, with our sisters and brothers who are migrants and refugees. We will reflect on their life stories in the spirit of the message of Pope Francis for the World Day of Peace. Pope Francis invites us to welcome, to protect, to promote and integrate them in our communities because they are our brothers and sisters in search of peace. It is in this Way of the Cross, that Jesus himself is walking the sorrowful journey of the migrants and refugees and guiding us with his own peace. For that reason, we want to commemorate this journey in solidarity with those people who leave their homes in search of the promised land, the land of milk and honey (Ex 3:8) which is the reign of God that Jesus Himself announces. This Way of the Cross is intended for all those communities and people who are living in the difficult experience of migration, and for those who work with migrants and refugees. We hold in prayer all those who are trying to build a better world, a world without borders, without walls and those women and men who have opened their eyes and hearts to the harsh reality of this phenomenon and want to be challenged by it...
