Integral Ecology alive and well in Jean Rabel, Haiti area

There are 12 students who are in an environmental club in the school of Cotton and 12 more in the school of Acadien. They are preparing the ground and planting vegetables. Here are cabbage, bit onions, peppers, carrots and a few other nutritious vegetables. The students are delighted to see the seedlings growing into strong plants. The cycle of caring for creation that nourishes the people who in turn continue caring for and nourishing planet earth.

The Response to the Cry of the Earth 

is a call to protect our common home for the wellbeing of all, as we equitably address the climate crisis, biodiversity loss, and ecological sustainability. 

Actions could include the adoption of renewable energies and energy sufficiency measures, achieving carbon neutrality, protecting biodiversity, promoting sustainable agriculture, and guaranteeing access to clean water for all. (LSAP)

The Response to the Cry of the Poor 

is a call to promote eco-justice, aware that we are called to defend human life from conception to death, and all forms of life on Earth. 

Actions could include projects to promote solidarity, with special attention given to vulnerable groups such as indigenous communities, refugees, migrants, and children at risk, analysis and improvement of social systems, and social service programmes. (LSAP)

Ecological Economics 

acknowledges that the economy is a sub-system of human society, which itself is embedded within the biosphere–our common home. 

Actions could include sustainable production and consumption, ethical investments, divestment from fossil fuels and any activity harmful to the planet and the people, supporting circular economies, and prioritizing care labour and protecting the dignity of workers. (LSAP)

The Adoption of Sustainable Lifestyles

is grounded in the idea of sufficiency, and promoting sobriety in the use of resources and energy. 

Actions could include reducing waste and recycling, adopting sustainable dietary habits (opting for a more plant-based diet and reducing meat consumption), greater use of public transport, active mobility (walking, cycling), and avoiding single use items (e.g. plastic, etc.) (LSAP)

Ecological Education 

is about re-thinking and re-designing curricular and institutional reform in the spirit of integral ecology in order to foster ecological awareness and transformative action. 

Actions could include ensuring equitable access to education for all and promoting human rights, fostering Laudato Si’ themes within the community, encouraging ecological leadership (students, teachers), and ecological restoration activities. (LSAP)

Ecological Spirituality 

springs from a profound ecological conversion and helps us to “discover God in all things”, both in the beauty of creation and in the sighs of the sick and the groans of the afflicted, aware that the life of the spirit is not dissociated from worldly realities.

Actions could include promoting creation-based liturgical celebrations, developing ecological catechesis, retreats and formation programmes, etc. (LSAP)

Community resilience and empowerment 

envisage a synodal journey of community engagement and participatory action at various levels. 

Actions could include promoting advocacy and developing people’s campaigns, encouraging rootedness and a sense of belonging in local communities and neighbourhood ecosystems. (LSAP)

La Respuesta al Clamor de la Tierra

es un llamamiento a la protección de nuestra casa común por el bien de todos, al tiempo que abordamos de forma equitativa la crisis climática, la pérdida de biodiversidad y la sostenibilidad ecológica. Las acciones podrían incluir la adopción de medidas de energía renovable y de suficiencia energética, logrando la neutralidad del carbono, la protección de la biodiversidad, la promoción de la agricultura sostenible y la garantía del acceso al agua potable para todos. (PALS)

La Respuesta al Clamor de los Pobres 

es una llamada a promover la eco-justicia, conscientes de que estamos llamados a defender la vida humana desde la concepción hasta la muerte, y todas las formas de vida en la Tierra. Las acciones podrían incluir proyectos para promover la solidaridad, con especial atención a los grupos vulnerables como las comunidades indígenas, los refugiados, los migrantes y los niños en situación de riesgo, el análisis y la mejora de los sistemas sociales y los programas de servicios sociales. La Economía Ecológica 

reconoce que la economía es un subsistema de la sociedad humana, que a su vez está integrada en la biosfera, nuestra casa común. Las acciones podrían incluir la producción y el consumo sostenibles, las inversiones éticas, la desinversión de combustibles fósiles y de cualquier actividad perjudicial para el planeta y las personas; el apoyo a las economías circulares y la priorización del trabajo asistencial y la protección de la dignidad de los trabajadores. La Adopción de Estilos de Vida Sostenibles

se basa en la idea de la suficiencia y en fomentar la moderación en el uso de los recursos y la energía. Las acciones podrían incluir la reducción de los residuos y el reciclaje, la adopción de hábitos alimentarios sostenibles (optar por una dieta más vegetal y reducir el consumo de carne), un mayor uso del transporte público, movilidad activa (caminar, ir en bicicleta) y evitar los artículos de un solo uso (por ejemplo, el plástico, etc). La Educación Ecológica 

consiste en repensar y rediseñar la reforma curricular e institucional en el espíritu de la ecología integral para fomentar la conciencia ecológica y llevar a cabo acciones transformadoras. Las acciones podrían incluir la garantía de un acceso equitativo a la educación para todos y la promoción de los derechos humanos, impulsando los temas de Laudato Si’ dentro de la comunidad, alentando el liderazgo ecológico (estudiantes, profesores) y las actividades de restauración ecológica. La Espiritualidad Ecológica 

surge de una profunda conversión ecológica y nos ayuda a “descubrir a Dios en todas las cosas”, tanto en la belleza de la creación como en los suspiros de los enfermos y los gemidos de los afligidos, conscientes de que la vida del espíritu no está disociada de las realidades mundanas. Las acciones podrían incluir la promoción de celebraciones litúrgicas basadas en la creación, el desarrollo de catequesis ecológicas, retiros y programas de formación, etc. (PALS)

La resiliencia y el empoderamiento de la comunidad 

conciben un camino sinodal de compromiso comunitario y acción participativa a varios niveles.

Las acciones podrían incluir la promoción de la defensa y el desarrollo de campañas populares, fomentando el arraigo y el sentido de pertenencia en las comunidades locales y los ecosistemas de los barrios. (PALS)

LAudato Si' week at Jesus and Mary

At Jesús María we want to celebrate Laudato si' Week by sharing some of the actions we do in the different countries where we are present.

“We know that things can change » (LS 13), and when we love and take care of our Common Home, our small grain of sand can become larger. All of us who belong to the family of Jesus and Mary want to continue to learn and to act concretely and to be bold in the spirit of Laudato Sí’, facing the different crises which affect our planet and its inhabitants.

“Laudato Si' Goals guide our actions. They redefine and rebuild our relationship with others and with our common home… These objectives call us to a spiritual and cultural revolution to achieve an integral ecology.” (PALS) 

Semana Laudato Si'

Este año, el tema de la Semana Laudato Si’, “Semillas de Esperanza”, nos llama a todos a ser esas semillas esperanzadoras en nuestras vidas y en nuestro mundo, arraigadas en la fe y el amor. El tema está inspirado en el símbolo del Tiempo de la Creación 2024, «primicias».

Esta semana nos invita a reunirnos en comunidad para contemplar y alimentar semillas de esperanza para nuestro «sufrido planeta» (LD 2).

Cada uno de nosotros tiene el poder de marcar la diferencia y contribuir a la construcción de un futuro más sostenible.
